Mexico got a hard earned victory over Ghana in an international friendly at NRG Stadium. 37,617 people watched as both countries sent teams primarily comprised of younger players showcase their potential, though Ghana played more of its senior players. The Black Stars have World Cup qualifiers resuming in August and are using this & an upcoming match against the US as preparation.

The match’s lone goal came off of a foul in the penalty box by Ghana defender John Bouye on Mexico’s Jesus Gallardo in the 30th minute. Elias Hernandez would convert the penalty kick, beating Ghana GK Richard Ofori.

Ghana was not without chances to score, however. Black Stars midfielder Frank Acheampong, Ghana’s Man of the Match, hit the goalpost in the 78th minute that would have tied the match had the ball went in. Mexico GK Jesus Corona, who was a sub in the 35th minute after Moises Munoz left due to a head injury, made 6 saves overall.
