Prairie View took advantage of Texas Southern turnovers and used the running game to defeat TSU 38-11 at BBVA Compass Stadium. New Panther coach Willie Simmons notched his first head coaching win, defeating Prairie Views’s fierce rival.

Prairie View tallied 290 yards rushing, including an 80 yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter by QB Trey Green. Green would go 13/27 for 162 yards passing and 1 passing TD along with the rushing TD. Courtney Brown would run 9 times for 88 yards rushing as well, a majority of those yards coming in the second half.

Texas Southern couldn’t get anything going on offense. Johnathan Bowen, making his 1st start for the Tigers, was 15/30 for 109 yards but had 2 costly interceptions. The lone Tiger touchdown came with 6:09 left in the game by Averion Hurts, coming in to replace Bowen.

Up next for Texas Southern is a home game against Bacone College. The game at BBVA Compass Stadium is at 7 pm on 9/11/15.
