The Houston Dynamo recorded their first loss on the young season, losing to Orlando City FC 1-0. Tyler Deric, the young Dynamo goalkeeper, allowed an own goal in the second half that proved the difference.

Orlando City’s scoring play began with a back pass from David Horst to Deric and the Dynamo goalkeeper took one touch but it carried away and was intercepted by Orlando City substitute forward Pedro Ribeiro, who pushed the ball past Deric. The two pursued the ball and Deric tried to punch the ball away but it hit the side of the net for an unfortunate own goal.

Though the own goal was the difference, Deric also made a terrific save on a Kaka free kick in the first half. Overall, both teams could not find much rhythm offensively. Damarcus Beasley after the match, was quick to point out that Deric wasn’t to blame for the loss:

“Overall as a team, we played bad. Can’t pin this loss on Tyler, we just didn’t play well. He (Deric) bailed us out last week, and tonight we couldn’t bail him out.”

The Dynamo travel to Los Angeles on the 21st to play the LA Galaxy before returning to BBVA Compass Stadium on the 28th to play Colorado.
