Today, the Houston Dynamo began training for the preseason. With all of the changes in the front office and on the roster, there was a buzz around Houston Amateur Sports Park. Hundreds of fans turned out to see the new coach and new players, along with returning veterans.

Notably absent from camp so far were Erick “Cubo” Torres, who is still on loan with Chivas until June, Leonel Miranda and Raul Rodriguez, who are on the way. Also, new goalkeeper coach Phil Hughes was not there. Still, there were the new draft picks and trialists going through some spirited drills.

Practice was spirited and you could hear new coach Owen Coyle shouting both instructions and encouragement to the team. Despite the fact that some players are not naturally English speaking, and that Coyle has a heavy accent, him and the coaches were able to get their points across, mostly by actively demonstrating what exactly they were looking for during drills.

During the after practice press conference, Coyle spoke on some of the changes he will be instituting. One change that fans may or may not notice is the pitch at BBVA Compass Stadium. The pitch will be going from 70 yards wide by 115 yards long to 73 yards by 115 yards. Coyle likes a wider pitch & feels that his pass oriented style with the players that are on the roster will be a good fit.
