The Sugar Land Skeeters and the Houston Area Society for American Baseball Research will host the 2015 Hot Stove Banquet on Thursday, January 22 from 6-9 p.m. at the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square. The Skeeters will honor the 2015 All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Players and present the Ray Knoblauch Coaching Award along with a guest panel discussion.

Former Major Leaguer and Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti, will headline the interactive and open panel discussion with other baseball greats, and local sports broadcaster Brett Dolan will act as the emcee for the event.

Following the panel, the Skeeters will present awards to the All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Players chosen by the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association. The HABCA will also award the recipient of the 2015 Ray Knoblauch Coaching Award to one deserving high school baseball coach who has devoted his life to the development of baseball programs in the Houston Area. Last year’s recipient was Cypress Ranch High School’s John Pope who led the school to a Class 5A State Championship title in 2012.

“Having the opportunity to recognize these players and the Ray Knoblauch award winner for their athletic accomplishments is a compliment to their character,” said General Manager of the Sugar Land Skeeters Chris Jones. “It is an honor to be a part of this event and work with an organization like the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association and SABR.”

The Hot Stove Banquet will also feature a silent auction benefiting the Skeeters Foundation. The Foundation promotes youth education and health while giving funds to help related projects or experiences for the diverse, youth populations of those undeserved in the Houston area.

The Hot Stove Banquet was previously hosted at Constellation Field but was moved to the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square to accommodate for a larger audience. In addition to the change of venue, the local Houston Area Chapter of the Society of Baseball Research will be involved in the expansion of the current banquet program.

“We are looking forward to kicking off the 2015 baseball season by honoring these valuable players and coaches at the Sugar Land Marriott,” said Bob Dorrill, Chair of the Houston Area SABR group. “The Marriott is a great location and will enable us to continue to grow the event with the Skeeters for years to come.”
